Religion, throught the orientation and practice of fanastics has sadly become, the bane of the Nigerian society! Every nooks and cranny has portraits, symbols and, or, writings about a religious order or group. Statistics shows that the average African is religious by nature. Every religion is in the race to win more people. This is seen as conversion.
Largely, mankind fits into two groups on matters of these beliefs. There are those who believes in the existence of a supreme being. And, those who do not.
Truly, I belong to the group that believes in the existence of God. Events and scenarios have led me to do so, not basing my belief on said realities.
Look around you. See. In this part of the world where 90% of the people believes in something or someone as the case maybe, greater than them to exist. In this same part of the world and even the world all over, people do the craziest and most inhumane of things sometimes even in the name of religion. The advance effect of this is that even those who believes in the existence of God are once more left to wonder if that God preached by believers to be all good and true, could ask that such evil be carried out in his name. In most cases to innocent people. It is ascribed to Saint Augustine of Hippo to have once said: faith without reasoning is fanatism; reasoning without faith is atheism. Logically, how true!
From the happenings even you are aware of, religious teachers must once more draw attention to the evil committed by some of those who ascribe to their faith, and openly condemn such practices. They must as a matter of obligation ensure that their followers learn the essence of religion, which is to help build the moral and spiritual values of their members for the salvation of souls and the betterment of mankind. Anything short of this is a misnormal and should be discarded and discouraged
Let's respect ourselves and live out our religious maturity as citizens of our dear country. And then, true ambassadors of our Faith.
God bless Nigeria
