TO promote culture in Imo, the state government will soon begin the construction of a gigantic cultural village in a suitable location within the state, Governor Ikedi Ohakim has disclosed.

In a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Blessing Chukwudi and made available to The Guardian at the weekend in Owerri, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Amanze Obi, who represented the governor at the opening ceremony of the Ernest Emenyonu International Conference on African Literature with the theme: “Issues in African Literature: Today and Tomorrow”, organised by the Imo State chapter of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), said the village would take care of the needs of Imo people and the environs.
Ohakim said the village, when completed, would provide a forum for experts and seekers of cultural wisdom and literature to gather and discuss issues at the global level.

While praising ANA for organising the conference, he called for sustenance, citing the efforts of his government in actualising the take over of Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education by the Federal Government.
The governor said his administration would assist the association to hold the fiesta yearly so as to continuously showcase the state’s cultural heritage.
In their speeches, the Chairman, Imo State House of Assembly Committee on Information, Inter-parliamentary and Due Process, Nze Ray Emeana and the state ANA Chairman, Mike Gbenga Ajileye, noted that the innovation was geared towards enhancing knowledge and educational development in the area of culture.

I didn't say there were no villages in Imo, its the type of villages
the village houses in Anambra are like from the early 1900s, come to Imo and see REAL houses built with brick/block, nice roofing etc. . . IN THE VILLAGE
and Awka and Onitsha are "cities", other than those places, its BUSH.
