CCT Adjourns Onnoghen's Trial To Feb 13 For Hearing Of Application by kahal29: 11:39am On Feb 04, 2019 |
Danladi Umar, chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), has accused the Adeboyega Awomolo, counsel to Walter Onnoghen, suspended chief justice of Nigeria (CJN), of applying delay tactics to stall proceedings. Umar made the accusation at the resumption of hearing on the case against Onnoghen on Monday. The court of appeal had refused to stay proceedings in the matter against the suspended CJN who is accused of false assets declaration. Awomolo had applied for an adjournment till Thursday because of a petition submitted to the National Judicial Council (NJC) against his client. The lawyer said the NJC would meet on Wednesday on the petition, the tribunal should adjourn so that it “it does not result in double jeopardy.” Aliyu Umar, counsel to the federal government, agreed to the adjournment but the CCT chairman said since the matter has been slated for hearing both lawyers “must” move their applications already pending before the court. “That [petition against Onnoghen at NJC] has nothing to do with the tribunal,” the CCT chairman said. “Why are you using delay tactics?” At the point, Awomolo was visibly angry. He said in his over 40 years at the bar, he has never done such. The FG counsel intervened and asked that the tribunal is stood down for 30 minutes. https://www.thecable.ng/just-in-cct-chairman-accuses-onnoghens-lawyer-of-delaying-trial JUST IN: The CCT has adjourned to 13th February, 2019 for hearing of application, insisting Justice Walter Onnoghen must be present to take his plea before any preliminary objection to the competence or jurisdiction of the trial can be raised. https://mobile.twitter.com/tvcnewsng/status/1092369799253016576 1 Like

Laughing @ the stupidity of the Buhari-led APC government here. They thought they're smart but have simply swallowed a bone that will continue to hold them by the jugular with the CJN-Onneghen's case though the man may not be clean. The judicial Coup to oust the CJN via the back door and use of subtle blackmail for his resignation is falling flat on its face.Unfortunately nobody is clean. From the presidency/AGF that filed the suit, CCT chair-Danladi Umar, his aid, NJC itself etc are all filled with corrupt people. Let the roforofo fight continue while all parties involved continue to expose their hidden corruption therein. Nigeria will be better for it sometime someday. For no- body holy pass.Peace! 16 Likes 2 Shares |

When is NJC sitting abeg. That one is the koko. This CCT thing is just a distraction. Even if they were to declare him guilty, the case will end at the supreme court. At that level, he will be let off the hook. Snake no dey chop Snake. 8 Likes |
