Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko has asked the state civil servants on Grade Level12 and above, who are yet to be computer-literate before December this year, to prepare their exit from the civil service.

Mimiko read the Riot Act in Akure on Wednesday while declaring open the annual congress of the state chapter of the All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools.

He noted with concern that since the world was now a global technological village, harbouring computer-illiterate senior bureaucrats would be a disservice to the people of the state.

He, therefore, advised them to enrol in a computer school and get proper training before December or send in their letters of resignation or retirement and leave the service.

The governor wondered why some senior civil servants failed to utilise the opportunities at their dispossal in the past to get the required computer training, which he said, would assist them to do their jobs more efficiently.

He also warned operators of private secondary schools which are noted for assisting students to pass examinations at all costs, to close down or face the full wrath of his government.

He said the private schools nicknamed "miracle centres" were noted for large scale examination malpractices and warned their owners to either comply with the rules guiding the operation of genuine private schools or quit the business immediately.

Mimiko said the government had a zero tolerance for miracle centres and examination malpractices.

He said, "We cannot fold our hands and allow all manners of private schools to spring up in the state, they should not doubt our will to clean up the education sector.

"It won't be business as usual, all private school owners must meet minimum standards, unemployment goes with school closure, but half-baked products go with miracle centres.

"It shall be zero tolerance for miracle centres, most products of miracle centres cannot cope and they pretend in the universities and end up as failures.

"The ministry of education should adopt a random checking of schools in the area of registration and apply sanctions where necessary.

"I am happy that the commissioner is already going about on this registration matter, anybody that is stepping out of the line will be sabotaging and necessary sanctions will be applied."

On the recruitment and posting of teachers, Mimiko assured the people that the problem would soon be over when the ongoing staff audit in the 596 secondary schools in the state might have been completed.

He said, "The information we have is that many of our rural areas are in shortage of teaching staff.

"We are trying to audit the teachers to find out if what we have is relative shortage or absolute shortage. If we have absolute shortage, then we employ capable hands to fill the gap, but if it is relative, then we redistribute."

"We are striving to ensure that the next set of teachers we are going to appoint will be zonal based who will be expected to serve in special localities for a period of five years before they are transferred to other places." He added.

The governor, who said the state government will provide the N4m required to complete the ANCOPPSS House, disclosed that running grants to secondary schools will be reviewed after the staff audit to know the quantum of money that will be expended on it.
