Nepotism is defined as the practice among those with power or influence of favouring relatives or friends, especially by giving them jobs.

So if a father or relative gives his son/friend a job on merit, is it also nepotism?

There are places or businesses which are handed over to relatives or friends and are still functioning.
Example is political practise in USA e.g the Bush family.

I know nepotism is worse in Africa, because most relatives or family members are not worth it so they bring down businesses and also stagnate a whole country like we have in Nigeria today.

If nepotism can have a positive effect, should it also be term as nepotism?

Nepotism has been programmed into the minds of most humans.

Ask a 15 year old in confidence what he'd do if he's made president. Trust me, his first words would put his family first before the interests of the country.
