Please state with reasons,please.Am expecting ur replies please.

Are you in Nigeria? I'm not aware of any Nigerian university teaching any of the above.

However, for security field, you will learn how to use existing tools like wireshark, fuzzers, vulnerability scanners like NMAP...

However, (here's the important part), you will still need to learn how to write scripts - programming at minimum.

As far as I know, the cyber security field has far too little competition. So it MIGHT be more lucrative for you.

My opinion: cyber security is more limited than Ethical hacking. Mean while, check out https://kali.training/ and https://www.offensive-security.com/ IMO cheaper than UNI

I opened a thread on this same question earlier this year. I will post the link https://www.nairaland.com/4966733/ethical-hacking-vs-software-engineering

Couldn't find it on their site. But googling confirmed it http://www.academia.com.ng/bayero-university-kano-buk-courses/

@DrBrainstorm

I'm assuming you interested in the knowledge - not just the certificate if not, you wouldn't ask for advice.

So, go over to bayero and talk to their cyber security and software engineering students. As many as you can find. From year one to 4 - especially year 4.

If you find mostly empty barrels - it's a signal to bail.

BTW, if you do just a little googling on ethical hacking, you'll definitely see Kali linux mentioned everywhere you go.

That's why I sent you some links earlier. They are courses taught by the company who created Kali. A few years ago Kali was called backtrack. So if you see backtrack, it means Kali and vice versa. (Imagine being taught C# by the designers of the compilers.)

Before I leave this topic for good, lemme leave this important nugget on security: "The best defense is a good offense."

So if you ever want courses on linux, wifi hacking, kali linux, android hacking, virus writing, website vulnerability scanner, rainbow tables, intrusion detection... give me a call.

Good luck.

Cyber security is best in my opinion. If you love hacking and spending hours and sometimes up to 24hrs on your laptop, then go for CS. Because in a practical country, you would be thought ethical hacking, restoring PCs that are hacked, finding IP addresses and a little of network programming.
