The issue of children hawking on the streets and roadsides in villages and in our Cities has been left uncontrolled to continue year in year out, it has now come to an alarming stage.
I know people will quickly point to Mr Poverty as driving a rise in the number of Nigerian child hawker.

Over 20 million children between the ages of 4 and 15 are involved in a form of child labour
O! yes, we have laws that guarantees child right but we all know it has not been on the government’s agenda to implement them is a strict term or even as a social issue to be campaigned upon.

We all can relate in one way or another the huge implications and self damage hanging over these children’s physical and emotional well-being. It exposes them to sexual abuse, physical exhaustion, vehicular accidents, death, malnourished, diseases and even drug and substance abuse gambling and prostitution and other juvenile crimes which set them up to grow into harden criminals and social unfits and as such become societal disconnected forever.
Some of us have also ague that child hawker is an integral part of our custom and tradition. But it is quite obvious that it has wax many of them into social misfits and into social security problems like robbery, prostitution and irresponsible/reckless adults.

What are the ways we can make our government at every level to enforce ban on street trading and most importantly that of the child hawker?

1. Are we to revalue the age (let’s say minimum age should be from 13 years of age at least having received reasonable home training )?
2. Are street hawkers to be licensed by categories and issued with Id cards
3. Should police and the general public police the child hawker more closely
4. can government force parents who cant afford to care send their wards to learn approved trades and not street hawk?

Please bring your Ideas on how best to handle this issue and help save our future generation of hard street life and save the society at large from another reckless criminal and socioeconomic saboteur and we will have less victims in our dear country. Thanks for your kind suggestions in advance.
