ASATTAHIR international Foundation sponsored the Educational mainstreaming of a 20 Year old Blind Girl in Sokoto, Nigeria:

As part of its renewed commitment in support of various categories of vulnerable people in the society, ASATTAHIR International foundation has taken the responsibility of educational mainstreaming of a 20 Year old blind girl in Sokoto, Nigeria. The beneficiary, Maryam Shehu, from Adarawa hamlet in Kasarawa village of Wamakko Local Government in Sokoto state went blind at the age of eleven. Her physical challenge interrupted her educational pursuit at Primary Five. All efforts at the level of the family to cure her ailment have been unsuccessful. Ever since, Maryam was not hopeless about life and continue with her dream of being educated at the highest level. It was Maryam's endless search for educational opportunities and support that influenced her thought to put a call through to ASATTAHIR Foundation.

As an ambitious but vulnerable person, Maryam took the pains of narrating her ordeals to the management of the Foundation and sought for its intervention and encouragement.

It was on this request and after due consultations with the family and community of Maryam that the Foundation took the responsibility of providing the necessary support for her mainstreaming in a formal school. The Foundation sponsored the reexamination of her medical condition, before her enrolment in a special school.

Accordingly, the Foundation sought for, and obtained admission for her at the famous A. A. Raji Special School and made all the necessary arrangements including her uniform, materials, transportation and other logistics required to keep her in school and make learning convenient for her.

Thus as planned along with her family members,    members of the press and  a delegation of the Foundation, Maryam was officially enrolled in school, today the 11th day of February, 2019.

The delegation of the Foundation led by the Chairman, Aliyu Sidi Attahiru was received by the Principal of the school, Malam Aliyu Modi Sifawa. In his remarks, the principal expressed delight for the Foundation's Interest in children and people with special needs. He commended the platform and assured it that the management's commitment to providing the necessary atmosphere for her and other children and people with special characteristics to receive quality education so as to facilitate their mainstreaming in society. He thus called on other similar platforms and wealth to do individuals to emulate the kind gestures of ASATTAHIR International Foundation to alleviate the stigmatization, deprivation and displacement of the vulnerable and physically challenged persons in the society. The secretary of the Foundation, Dr. Yahaya T. Baba appreciated the management of the school for the warm reception and the assurances  that these vulnerable persons will be given the opportunity and atmosphere to unlock their potentials for their  sustainable empowerment.
