Ohanaeze, Afenifere, others urge Igbo, Yoruba to Middle belt to support Buhari

Pan ethnic groups met in Lagos on Wednesday urging Nigerians to support President Mohammadu Buhari and his Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo. Irohinoodua attended the event held in Lagos.
The groups, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Afenifere, Coalition of Middle Belt Progressives, (COMBP) at a World Press conference held in Lagos said the in the best circumstance, the victory of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) Presidential candidates will guarantee a better future for Nigerians.
Addressing the hundreds of participants on behalf of the group, the Secretary General, Ohanaeze, Dimm Uche Okwukwu said correcting the ills of Nigeria cannot be achieved within the shortest span.
Okwukwu said he had spent one week in the South West consulting with the Igbo elite and masses adding that he was convinced majority of the Igbo in the South West have seen the need to support the APC. He said with Prof Osinbajo as the VP, supporting Atiku Abubakar would be seen by the Yoruba as a betrayal.
He said “In 2015, Nigerians resisted reckless feudal domination and exploitation of the mass of the people and for the first time in Nigerian political history, the opposition defeated the ruling party.
“In the last four years the custodians of the vanguished dominant historical forces had struggled in vain to “overthrow” the present government, whereas a greater percentage of Nigerians with clear ideological commitment, vision on how to address the Nigerian problem resisted them.
Okwuwkwu accompanied by the Eze Ndigbo of Lagos, the representatives of the Etsu Nupe in Yorubaland, Alhaji Garuba Ibrahim, the leader of Coalition of Middle Belt Progressives, Mr Kudu Abubakar said the best way to ensure the restructuring of the country was for Nigerians to vote for those whose words could be trusted.
The groups said “Let us repeat our voices and make them loud: Nigeria should not return into the dark era of brigandage. We may be feeling some pains now, but we should not forget that every situation has its own primary and secondary causes.”
They argue that rejecting the current government, will not in any way translate to a new renaissance, it will infact roll back the gains recorded in railways, in the fight against corruption, in the culture of integrity associated with the conduct of elections and the fact that Nigeria today has a better opportunity to correct the ills of yesteryears.
“We wish to add that the APC is more trusting when it comes to restructuring is enshrined in the manifesto of the APC unlike the mere sloganeering of the PDP, restructuring is written in the manifesto of the APC. This has been further demonstrated by the Bill on State Police presented at the National Assembly by the APC. There has never been any remarkable move by any PDP lawmaker to show commitment to restructuring except the fact that the PDP Presidential candidate speaks on it.”
