Cancer is one of the most feared ailments in the world. According to experts, it is the second most common causes of death worldwide.

Honestly, whenever we see someone suffering from cancer, death is the next thing that comes to our mind. While cancer is dangerous, it has been overhyped over the years.

Despite the effort experts are making to increase cancer awareness worldwide, there is still misinformation about it.

Again, this ailment affects millions of people every year. According to research, one out of every ten persons has a family member or friend that has been diagnosed with cancer. Yeah! It is that dangerous.

Going by the reports of the National Cancer Institute, there are over 100 diagnosable variations of cancers. While there are advance medical breakthroughs in cancer treatments, most cancers cases have no definitive cure.

This is why it is one of the most dangerous ailments in the world currently. There are still several things most people don’t know about cancer. This article will clarify all the doubts and misinformation you have about this deadly ailment.

9 Misinformation People Have About Cancer

#1. People Who Make Healthy Choices Don’t Get Cancers

This is one of the greatest fallacies about cancer. Sadly, most people don’t even know how cancer starts.

So, cancer basically starts when a regular cell goes the wrong way.

While living a healthy lifestyle; eating well, regular exercise, getting enough sleep, minimizing alcohol consumption etc, can reduce the risk of cancer, but it is not an assurance that you can’t get cancer.

Let me blow your mind a little, we have seen a yoga instructor suffering from cancer. Cancer is basically a combination of genetics and environmental factors.

#2. Cancer is Contagious

Don’t be a victim of the lie that cancer is contagious “blah blah blah”. It’s a Lie with a capital letter “L”…. Cancer can’t be transmitted and if you have a friend or family member with cancer, you aren’t going to catch it from them.

#3. If Your Parents Have Cancer, You will have too

Indeed illiteracy is a disease o. Imagine “somebody whose father is dying of cancer sees such misconception”…. He will basically die before cancer comes.

Even though genetics is one of the factors causing cancers, but most of the cancer cases are associated with secondary environmental factors.

What most people fail to understand is that “we all make cancer cell”. But the immune system recognizes these cells and kill them with certain special cells. These special cells are like Police Cells, they fight all abnormal cell including cancerous one.

You see, we all make cancer cells. But people with genetic cancers are those who are deficient in those cancer-killing cells (Police cell) or mechanism.

#4. Only People Who Smoke Get Lung Cancer

While smokers have a greater risk of getting lung cancer, it is not peculiar to them. We have seen instances where people who never smoked before in their lives died of lung cancer.

So, the believe that nonsmokers can’t get lung cancer is one of the misinformation people have about cancers.

#5. You Don’t Have Cancer If You Don’t Have Any Physical

Nobody disputes the fact that self-examination is good. But not all cancers come as a visible lump. According to experts, Cancers are classified as either liquid or solid.

The solid cancers are the most common one and they are associated with the breast and prostate. Liquid, on the other hand, are present in blood cancers like Leukemia and are less noticeable.

#6. If You Have A Tumor You Have A Cancer

It still baffles me how people use Tumor and cancer interchangeably. Cancer is a group of diseases that cause abnormal cell growth. While Tumor refers to the mass of tissues that form when the body’s cell divide too much.

#7. The Symptoms Of Cancer Are Obvious

This is very untrue. Some patients with cancer don’t experience any symptoms at all. Again, it depends on the type of cancer. For instance, cough is the most common symptoms of lungs cancer. But there are patients with it that never coughed until they are diagnosed.

Also, blood in the stool is a common symptom for colon cancer. But there are patients who never experienced this and they have it. You see, the assumption that cancer symptoms are obvious is a very wrong one and it happens to be one of the misinformation people have about cancer.

#8. Eating Sugar Can Make Cancer Worse

Another misconception about cancer. What do you expect in an era when Dr. Google has suddenly become the highest medical authority…

Some people believe that taking sugar will fuel the growth of cancer. This has made several cancer patients be living a sugar-free diet lifestyle they don’t need to follow.

Breaking news…Cancer patients can eat sugar and it doesn’t fuel the growth of the disease.

#9. Everyone With Cancer Loses Their Hair

Let me confess “ I used to believe that everyone with cancer loses ther hair, until I read it somewhere”. The truth is that not everybody with cancer goes bald.

Most cancer patients that lose their hair could be due to treatment. For instance, if they have radiation to the brain, they may have hair loss. Again, chemotherapy and hormonal agents can cause hair loss.

And cancer patients who have chemotherapy may lose their hair for a few months and then it comes back. ..

Also one of the biggest myths about cancer is not to get screened. All urban and rural population are scared of screening which is the best possible way to prevent cancer and treat it early.

Also taking Second Opinions from world class institutes is considered expensive however it normally turns out cheaper as in many cases is provides different options from different health systems.
