There is a rumour circulating on social media that voters are not allowed to vote with their thumbs, this is not true. According to INEC official who came to sentize Corps members today in Akwa-ibom state, "Voters can vote with any finger since the ballot paper is not finger sensitive. She further explained, that votes that would be made void is those, in which the voters choice is not known.
Therefore, voters are to make their choices in such away that the ink on the ballot paper, don't cut across two different parties. To avoid this voters are to roll the ballot papers horizontally and flat.
She added that people in these categories would not be allow to vote;
People whose card could not be read by card reader,
People whose card could be read but their names is not found on the register."

You can vote with any finger. INEC captured fingerprints from your ten fingers during the registration and so prints from all ten fingers are readable.

However, all the political parties advise that you use your index finger, rather than your thumb so that your fingerprint will be entirely within the box on the ballot paper (the index finger is thinner than the thumb).

The problem is that some people misunderstood this advice and created the false Whatsapp broadcast below.
