There are multiple reports on social media that the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is hacking the mobile phones of Nigeria via an automated phone call.

Mr. Abubakar and his running mate, Peter Obi, have been calling Nigerians randomly to ask that they vote for them but hackers have discovered that it’s a ploy by the duo to hack people’s phones.

A hacker who refused to be named urged Nigerians not to fall for the scam of the PDP and their candidates, noting that, they will access the phone records of individuals who fall for the scam.

“This is a scam that was used by the Russians during the 2016 election in the United States. They are replicating it in Nigeria and it could harmful to your phone.

The hacker said those who do not use smartphones are less vulnerable because the ‘spam’ deployed is aimed at people using smartphones.

“Maybe iPhone users can be protected because they have a stronger anti-spam and anti-virus protection but those using android are their real target.

He urged Nigerians not to receive phone calls from numbers they do not know or cannot verify as spam.

Sometimes you read some stuff and you Wonder! This voice call is prerecorded and its like bulk SMS. I have received calls from aspirants from both major parties from previous elections since 2007.

How does a certain number calling your phone hack your phone?
Can people be that dumb? Who ever can arrange an automated call to deliver what ever message. This is so commonly used by telecoms coys to advertise caller tunes and other things. When several people using an app like true caller don't fancy the unsolicited calls and mark them as SPAM the app now identifies the number/caller as SPAM to other users of their app.

Now desperate politicians attach stupid meanings to it and ignorant people swallow it and spread it without even caring to google the meaning of SPAM. You should be ashamed of yourselves for being too lazy to find out the meaning of a word you don't know.

Reminds me of the scare about being called with numbers that end with 999.
