it depends if he said he will confess after some series of prayers then it could be the HolySpirit working. but still while he is held captive, listen to what he wants to say and it will determine if he is still mad or not or probably pretending pending on how long he has been mad. And just not to confuse you but make things easier try showing or acting some sensible things to him to see his reaction in order to know if he's still mad before the confession. something you know he can't avoid.
