In all of this the most painful realisation is the fact that City would most likely win the FA not even United's loss.

Take heart

Man City is already out. Swansea kicked them out before United's game. How do you guys not know this? undecided

So, City pullled through rather controversially, too bad

Never mind, the fraud that is City would soon be exposed. The FA's role and all! They've had too many debatable penalties, and so many other favourable decisions to confirm that a lot of water is certainly passing under the bridge!

You mean like the penalty awarded you guys against PSG?

how about realistically?

Realistically, they might be poised to receive embarrassment from Barca and probably finish 6th in the league grin.

The humiliation they will suffer in the hand of Barça will be more than that of still.

Might not necessarily be so. Cup games are notoriously hard to predict and the FA Cup is one unique competition built around a history of upsets. The UEFA Champions League is slowly evolving in that direction.

If you have been watching football for a while you will have noticed that in the late 80's, 90's and early 2000's when European clubs were heavily staffed by indigenous/national players and coaches club squads took the personalities of national teams and with the tactics of that era international games were tight, cagey affairs because everyone knew the strengths and weaknesses of everyone. It was easier to predict the winner of UCL games.

These days there is merging of tactics. Most clubs play the same way. Pep has taken the tiki-taka to the Bundesliga and left parts of the DNA there together with some of its ambassadors from Laliga in Bayern, he has brought same to City. If City squares up to Bayern the result becomes less predictable. Klopp left his counter pressing legacy at Dortmund, brought some of it to Liverpool and mixed it in. The result, an unexpected Liverpool victory right there in the Allianz Arena against Bayern who thought they were playing against a normally brittle English team, a result that was unthinkable a decade ago. Two decades ago Liverpool a strong, traditional English club would prefer to have a British coach and British players. Today every club in first tier Europe has multi lingual, multi cultural players. The effect of this is clubs have become similar in the way they play. The results are less predictable.

Even the power and influence of marquee players and gaffers such as the Messi's, the Ronaldo's, the Guardiolas, the Klopps on the result of matches and the outcome of games will continue to decline in the future. I will not rule Manchester United in or out against Barcelona. On that day a reliable Messi will just become sterile while an inconsistent Pogba will just become a beast. A calm Valverde will become confused while a baby Solksjaer will become his daddy. Such is the drama of modern day football.
