- Politicians have been blamed for the postponement of 2019 general election - Mike Igini claims that a plethora of petitions against the commission with regards to primaries was one of the main reasons

- The INEC REC in Akwa Ibom also accused politicians of not sticking to the commission’s timetables Mike Igini, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Akwa Ibom has revealed that the failures of political parties to stick to INEC’s timetables and a plethora of petitions against the commission with regards to primaries, was one of the main reasons why the 2019 general elections was postponed.

Igini made this known when he appeared as a guest on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics. “Today within this period we are talking about, we have had a total of 640 cases joining INEC, and a total of 14 court orders either asking INEC to add or remove a name,” Igini stated.

- El-Rufai replies critics According to him, issues stemming from various party primaries caused a delay in the printing of ballot boxes which indirectly added to the rescheduling of the elections. He also claimed that INEC was left with just one month to produce over 400 million ballot papers due to the way the parties handled their primaries. Going further, he added that following the issues with ballot papers, the commission was also faced with the issue of moving the heavy pallets across the country by air and by road and as a consequent of this, the time was not enough.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Dr Kechi Ogbuagu, president of Conversations for Change (C4C), an NGO, urged Nigerians not to be deterred by the postponement of the 2019 general elections, but vote on Saturday, February 23, to avoid voter apathy.

Ogbuagu, who gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yola on Sunday, February 17, said that the postponement of the Saturday presidential and National Assembly elections was unexpected.
