Afrobeat artist Mr Kul released his breakthrough Single Titled Classic Afrobeats in 2018. The tape has somewhat gotten lost in the fray over the course of the year, but it was a stealthy collection of thoughtful, inspired funk and tuneful aspiration sermons. This week, he premiered the video for the standout track “Classic Afrobeats.” The clip displays the braggadocio, desires, and dreams of wealth he sings about on the record. “Classic Afrobeats” is full of references to the Originator of Afrobeats Fela Anikulapo Kuti, videos—assisted by Mr Kul’s own likeness to the Singer—in its tilted camera angles, florescent lighting, models in see-through trench coats, and displays of cars.
