Re: 2012 African Nations Cup Qualifier Nigeria Vs Madagascar (2 : 0) by honeric01(m): 5:54pm On Sep 05, 2010
46’ – Madagascar kick off the second half.

– The second half is about to start soon, Nigeria back on the pitch.

45 + 4’ – It's the end of the first half. The Tunisian ref blows his whistle. Fans are dreaming of more goals from the Eagles after the interval.

45 + 2’ – The crowd are now a lot more excited and begin to do the Mexican wave in celebration.

45 + 2’ – Great work by Martins again! The Rubin Kazan striker really wants to play.

45 + 1’ – GOAL! Martins darts into the box from the left and Eneramo finally gets his goal with a simple tap-in. Nigeria lead 2-0.

45’ – Defensive header by Yobo, There will be four minutes of additional time.

44’ – The long ***** by Nigeria are easily read and cleared by the Barea.

43’ – Martins is stopped in the nick of time as he steadies to fire home from inside the Madagascar box.

42’ – Scrappy play by both teams as game approaches the half time mark.

39’ – Nigeria pile on the pressure in search of a second goal.

38’ – Still 1-0 in favour of Nigeria as the visitors continue to defend resolutely.

36’ – Madagascar look comfortable on the ball, but it is Uche who blasted at goal from outside the box for goalkeeper Masina to save easily.

34’ – Eneramo again runs clear of the Barea back line but he fails to get a hold on his shot. The Esperance striker looks good for a goal.

– The game is still wide open as Madagascar are here to play football, they are not intimidated by Nigeria's track record.

31’ – Eagles clear their lines back in defence as the Barea attack again.

29’ – Madagascar can look after themselves physically as the likes of Osaze, Martins and even Eneramo find out quite quickly,

28’ – Tempo of the game has slowed down since a frantic opening by hosts Nigeria.

26’ – The lively Laliana puts in a cross inside the Nigeria box, but there is no player to make the necessary connection.

25’ – Long ball by Yobo locates Uche, whose chip from outside of the foot is again punched away by the Madagascar goalkeeper.

23’ – Martins forces a corner kick, the first of the game after he was again put through by Uche.

21’ – Free kick for Eagles from a scorable distance, taken by Uche but the goalie punches the eventual kick to safety.

20’ – It was a clinical finish by Martins, who dashes into the box before firing home with his weaker right foot.

19’ – GOAL! Obafemi Martins opens the scoring. Nigeria lead 1-0.

18’ – Eneramo's shot from well outside the box goes wide.

16’ – Mikel is spraying his long ***** to launch the Nigeria attack, but the away team seem to be reading those ***** very well.

14’ – This will not be a picnic for the Eagles. Madagascar are holding their own even on a bumpy UJ Esuene Stadium pitch.

13’ – Martins sets up Kalu Uche inside the 18-yard box but Madagascar clear their lines.

6’ – Eagles playing the ball around well as Madagascar try to contain them and sit back in their own half of the pitch.

4’ – Game restarts after a three-minute delay.

1’ – Nigeria take kick-off.

1’ – Still within the minute mark, Eneramo goes clear for Nigeria, but he fails to make hay after he collided with the goalkeeper. It's a cracking start!

– Game held up for a couple of minutes to attend to the injured Madagascar goalie.

– The team captains shake hands and we're ready for kick off.

– The Barea of Madagascar are kitted in all-red. It's a packed stadium, which has a capacity of about 15,000.

– Nigeria line-up: Vincent Enyeama – Chidi Odiah, Valentine Nwabili, Joseph Yobo, Danny ****tu – Oluwafemi Ajilore, Mikel, Osaze Odemwingie, Kalu Uche – Michael Eneramo, Obafemi Martins.

– The teams are on the touchline for the national anthems now.

– Nigeria are playing in all-green strips and will be led by Joseph Yobo.

– Today’s referee is Jedidi Slim from Tunisia.

– Match venue, UJ Esuene Stadium has staged matches of the 1999 FIFA Under-20 World Cup and last year’s FIFA Under-17 World Cup.

– It once boasted a top team, Calabar Rovers, but these days they are languishing in the obscurity of the lower league.

– The southern coastal town of Calabar, widely regarded as the cleanest in Nigeria, has been bubbling since it was announced last weekend it will host this full international fixture.

Re: 2012 African Nations Cup Qualifier Nigeria Vs Madagascar (2 : 0) by honeric01(m): 5:56pm On Sep 05, 2010
71’ – Nigeria have about 70% of the possession.

70’ – Okoro is already making his presence felt as he forces a corner.

69’ – Okoro was the stand-out star for Nigeria at the U-17 World Cup last year in Nigeria.

68’ – Nigeria Substitution: Stanley Okoro replaces Eneramo.

67’ – Nigeria are playing the ball around more as they look for gaps in the defence of the other team.

65’ – A mistake around the Nigeria box gives Madagascar a sniff at goal, but in the end it's nothing to worry about for the Eagles fans.

64’ – The game has opened up a lot more now as both teams have more space within which to really express themselves.

63’ – Otekpa's shot from distance is wayward and easily rolls out for a goal kick to the Barea.

I hope all the home based players doing well today will be properly integrated into the Eagles team. More home based players should be called up for other matches and lets see how they will perform. Has anything been said about Samson Siasia?  Or we should be expecting another coach to take charge of the Super Eagles? Hmn.

Game over, not the kinda scoreline i expected though. smiley

The Super Eagles of Nigeria beat the visiting Madagascar 2:0 at the U.J. Esuene Stadium Calabar in their Nations Cup qualifying match on Sunday. Both goals were scored in the first half by Obafemi Martins and Michael Eneramo.

Nigeria dominated the first period, but lost their tempo after the restart with the Barea coming close to breaching the Eagles defence in the dying moments of the game.

Rubin Kazan striker Martins was been the spark in the Eagles attack, scoring a fine opening goal and creating a second. Martins struck first in the 19th minute after lashing on to a high diagonal ball and racing in before finishing confidently.

Martins was again on the end of a brilliant long ball by Chelsea man Mikel Obi in first half injury time. With much work still to do, Martins beat the right back on the run before cutting back for Eneramo to finish clinically.

The duo of Stanley Okoro and Ahmed Musa made their Super Eagles debut late in the second half with Musa showing flashes of why he is considered one of the brightest new Nigerian talents.

I just read online that Ahmed Musa will be moving to the Dutch League very soon. That is really good for him. It should be a starting point for the youngster. Thanks everybody. Cheers.

Finally we have home based players on the team even if its just three. This is how to develop our national team especially the S.E. Not waiting for the players to leave for Sudanese league before inviting them ala we know who.

Well done Eguavoen. I didn't see the game and even though I did not really like your first forray as SE coach, it seems to me the NFF will retain you as SE coach for now so as a Nigerian, Il support you as long as we keep putting out a good team.

Kudos to the new boys. Keep it up and maybe you'l get good deals abroad.
