The governorship election Ogun State, South West Nigeria has been marred with multiple incidences of ballot boxes been snatched at different Local Government Areas in the State.

Our correspondent can report that at least five ballot boxes have been snatched at different locations in the State including one overseen by an aide of Governor Ibikunle Amosun, Toyin Ayebusiwa, Senior Special Assistant for the Political Affairs of the Eastern Senatorial District.

According to eyewitnesses, Ayebusiwa stormed his polling unit in Ogun Waterside, Iga with thugs who first threatened electorate against voting any other party than the candidates of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

The thugs who threatened to beat up anybody who would not vote Adekunle Akinlade, governorship candidate of the APM, subsequently carted ballot boxes for both the governorship and State House of Assembly away as voters dispersed the scene.

In Ijebu Ode, Ward 9, the story was no different. A ballot box was snatched a group of three who warned Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) staff against losing their lives.

“INEC officials and other voters voluntarily gave up the ballot box, no one will want to lose their life because of an election,” a voter who did not want to be named told journalists.

The voter said electorate was disappointed that despite all the warnings against ballot box snatching some people were determined to disrupt the peaceful flow of the election.

“This is unacceptable. This thugs will do anything including killing voters to achieve their devious plans. We had to flee, it was the sensible thing to do,” she added.

Other incidences have been reported across the state. In Oke Bode, Abeokuta the ballot boxes for both the governorship and State House of Assembly were carted away, journalists learnt.

There were other places where similar incidents were reported including Ifo, Odeda and Ado Odo.
