The Vice-Chancellor, Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, Prof. Chinedum Nwajiuba has pledged unalloyed support and collaborative effort with the host community in providing social amenities. He said that the synergy with the community to the government would bring succour and much needed facility to the people.
Speaking while receiving members of Amegu Echara Youth Forum in his office, the Vice-Chancellor recalled his magnanimity to people of Ikwo especially his openness and partnership in developing the community and noted that the community is friendly.
He disclosed that Ikwo is the only host community that got the highest number of admission intakes in the 2018/2019 academic session adding that his commitment was to remove the stigma of less educationally advantaged people to most educated group within the shortest period of time.
He noted that civilization and development accompanying citing a university in a particular area attract a lot of benefits but sometimes breached by little activities of miscreants.
‘University is a good thing. A good thing has cost implication’. There is increased demand for housing accommodation and this has multiplier effects. The need for greater water consumption and the need for enhanced security outfits and high cost of renting houses as a result of increased demand are all end products of development’, the Vice Chancellor noted.
Prof. Nwajiuba observed that ‘the university is growing and will keep growing while the economy of the locals will change and by extension, the state in general’.
The Vice Chancellor pleaded with the group to foster peace and prudence in dealing with the students, stressing that posterity keeps record of cherished attitudes.
The leader of the group, Mr. Ogbonnaya Onele expressed delight and deep satisfaction over the rapid transformation and speedy, massive infrastructural development witnessed all over the university and assured the University of their cooperation and collaboration.
Highpoint of the visit was the presentation of a plaque bearing ‘1st Igbo Vice-Chancellor’ to herald their fulfilled desire from the management of the institution.
