The Vice-Chancellor, Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, Prof. Sunday Elom, has pledged to collaborate with the Counselling Association of Nigeria (CASSON) to improve the mental, psychological, emotional state of staff and students of the institution.

The Vice-Chancellor made the pledge yesterday when members of the Ebonyi State Chapter of the association paid him a courtesy, to appreciate him for his assistance during their national conference held at the University of Ibadan, Oyo State, recently.

Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor has also assured members of Imo State Staff Association, AE-FUNAI chapter of his commitment to staff welfare and fatherly support as they continue to discharge their official responsibilities as staff of the University.



They Vice Chancellor gave the assurance yesterday when members of the association pledged their unalloyed support and loyalty to his administration. He noted that that he is part of them; hence, they should not entertain any form of fear as they will not be marginalized in the affairs of the University.

“I am part of you. You can always count on me. Nobody will marginalize you because you come from Imo State. Not under my watch.



“We are in it together. AE-FUNAI is our project and God will help us to make it the University of our dream

“I want to assure you of my commitment to staff welfare because if staff are not adequately motivated, they won’t give their best”, he concluded.

While speaking during the event, the President of the Counselling Association of Nigeria (CASSON), Ebonyi State chapter, Prof. Florence Otta, noted that the association is an international organization comprising of professional counsellors in Nigeria, adding that as a Chapter in Ebonyi state, they are available to assist the university in organising seminars for the staff and students on stress management and other areas to help the institution in ensuring the psychological stability of members of staff and students.

Prof Otta, prayed God to continue to uplift the Vice Chancellor and give him the divine enablement to discharge his responsibilities effectively in order to take the university to greater heights.



She further congratulated Prof. Elom on his emergence as the 3rd Vice-Chancellor of the university, and also thanked him for releasing a bus that conveyed members of the association to Ibadan for their annual conference.

‘’We are very grateful to you sir for easing our transportation cost and we pray God to bless you and your family’’ she said.

On his part, the Chairman, Imo State Staff Association, AE-FUNAI chapter, Comrade Isdore Nwachukwu while speaking during their courtesy visit pledged their unalloyed support to the Vice-Chancellor for his consistency in relating with staff and students of the University irrespective of their tribe, religion or state of origin.

‘’We believe in you’’, he said, adding that they have no doubt of the leadership capacity of the Vice-Chancellor to deliver on his mandates.
