Use castile soap to bathe and rub flax oil on your skin. By the way, the flax oil smells kinda like fish.

@poster.you never mentioned seeing a dermatologist.you have to see one.the advise given so far is good one but see a skin specialist.this work's Magic: aythins, superb cream that kill's eczema or whatever skin ailment right before your eye's!it is of english origin's but rare in nigeria.another good one is nizoral:cream and tablet's:cream to terminate it from the outside and tablet to clean's it from your bloodstream,if you cure it on the skin and it is still in the blood, it will resurface!!
Good luck!

There is a lot of misinformation on this thread. Eczema is simply a dry skin condition - sometimes called Dermatitis. There are different types of Eczema, and the condition is usually caused by various things - though the cause can sometimes be unknown. E.g. Atopic Eczema.

The most common is Contact Dermatitis (Allergic and Irritant) - This is caused when the skin comes into contact with various chemicals or metals. This can be soaps, creams, lotions, cheap jewellery, various metals,  detergent, etc. It can also be caused by dust mites, bed bugs, poor circulation, emotional stress, a reduction in the oils on the skin surface, low humidity, over cleansing of the skin, hot baths, etc.

The best way to treat is by removing potential causative agents from your lifestyle through a process of elimination. You should also use emollients - these are non-cosmetic moisturisers which can be creams, ointments, lotions or gels.  Emollients help moisturise the skin. Also , try not to use creams or lotion that contain any chemicals or perfume. If serious, you can be prescribed a topical steroid cream. These help to reduce inflammation and speed up healing of the skin.

Natural remedies such as pure Shea butter, nutmeg, sandalwood have been shown to help greatly.
Also adding some food oils to your diet - namely Flax seed oil, and especially Hemp seed oil will have a dramatic effect. Note that these oils are not to be used in cooking, or heated. They are supposed to be dribbled over your food before you eat. Hope this helps.

quite often what we call eczema is not eczema but a condition called tinea versicolor or pityriasis versicolor.
TV Or PV
it is important when discussing skin conditions to be sure you are both talking about the same thing
have a look at this

http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=tinea+versicolor&hl=en&prmd=ivnsb&source=lnms&tbm=isch&ei=4xekTerKD4ayhAe_56TICQ&sa=X&oi=mode_link&ct=mode&cd=2&sqi=2&ved=0CBEQ_AUoAQ&biw=1003&bih=622

TV is caused by a fungus which is a skin commensal. i.e. it is normally found on the skin where it lives alongside other organisms. it does this without causing any obvious difficulty because it is limited in quantity by other organisms and the natural immunity. this is the case for other organisms which live in the mouth or gut.

under certain conditions e.g. excessive moisture, oily skin, malnutrition e.g.
the growth of this fungus is uncontrolled and it produces patches of hypopigmentation on the skin. it is best treated with antifungal creams, ointments etc e.g clrtimazole this can be bought OTC. sometimes it recurs frequently and then medical advice should be sought. your doctor might recommend a course of oral antifungals
