President Muhammadu Buhari has given reasons he declined assent to five bills from the National Assembly.

JAMES NEWS recalls that Buhari on Wednesday in a letter to the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, read at plenary declined assent to five bills.

The newly rejected bills included: Nigerian Film Corporation Bill, Immigration (Amendment) Bill, Climate Change Bill, Chartered Institute of Pension Practitioners Bill as well as Digital Rights and Freedom Bill.

On why he refused to sign the bills, Buhari said “I refused assent on the Immigration Bill because it would have adverse effect on Nigeria’s position on the ease of doing business ranking if signed into law.

“ The Chartered Institute of Pension Practitioners Bill amounted to duplication of functions with an existing institute.”

“Also, conflicting and duplication of duties of existing government agencies, their destructive nature, as well as lack of clarity in other bills.”

Though i'm not a fan of Buhari's style of governance, i'd say that most of these bills are not really worth becoming laws as they most at times are copy and paste work from the laws of other countries. They mainly make laws that would favour them. D Land Use Act has largely been criticized and what has been done to review it ? Our laws don too plenty jhoor and we no dey feel d impact.

have noticed that those block heads have not been able to disagree with reasons given by Buhari each time he refused to sign documents present to him? those guys don't do there home work well.
one of them just wake up one day, think of something/read something on paper from somewhere else, share it with others and the next thing you hear is that we have to make it a law in Nigeria.

President Buhari has been able to contain the mischievousness of the 8th Assembly. Nigerians look forward to a better Return on the Billions spent on the National Assembly.
