Professor Attahiru Jega, the Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), will this month begin his mobilization of voters for the forthcoming general elections with a lecture titled: ‘Credible Leaders: The Role of Faith-Based Organisations’ in Abuja. The event is part of activities organised to mark the opening ceremony of the 2010 FCT/Niger Seminar of Eckankar, Religion of the Light and Sound of God.

A statement from the organisation said the public lecture was being organised as a part of the social service of the religion, to help Nigerians better understand their roles and necessary contributions towards credible leadership at every sphere of life.

The Eckankar Area Director of Abuja and environs, Engr. Emeka Ezeh, who is also the Director-General of the Bureau for Public Procurement (BPP), said the annual seminar is scheduled for between September 23rd and 26th.

He enjoined members of the public to seize this opportunity for self-improvement, enlightenment, and acquisition of spiritual skills for survival.

Dr. Kudo Eresia-Eke, Chairman of the Seminar Planning Committee, and organisers of the lecture, said the topic was informed by the fact that Nigerians are highly faith-based people. He said because every Nigerian belongs to one faith or the other, assigning special roles to faith-based organisations throughout the country would be as good as involving every Nigerian in a special way towards raising credible leadership at all levels.
