There has been reports of people being swindled of their funds by direct debit.

I got a call from 08149267149 today at 10:00am purportedly from my bank. Red flag, the caller didnt know my bank, so I immediately claim FCMB of which I don't even have an account there.
Next he claimed that my bvn is showing 2 different dates of birth of which non is close to mine. I asked him to choose the first one that it's in their record in the bank. Next he asked for my account number, an I gave him a fake account number. He said I might have made a mistake that it's wrong. He asked how many accounts is linked to my BVN and I said it's 5, he asked for another one and I gave him another fake one in GTB. The guy vex hang up the phone. He called later to abuse me.

Had it been I gave him correct account number, he'll go on to paystack or other payments processors and input the account number and then initiate a transaction. When the code is sent, he will call me to ask for the code so he can complete the correction in my account or bvn and zoom my funds will disappear.

I know all phone lines in Nigeria are registered. How then is it easy for these guys to defraud unsuspecting citizens and go unpunished?
