In the 60s and 70s, it was convenient for many African scholars to blame the West for the problems of Africa. Books like How Europe Underdeveloped Africa by Walter Rodney and The West and The Rest of Us by Chiwenzu Ibekwe appealed to many radical leftists in Africa who tried to explain why the continent had to grapple with many problems after independence.

Interesting enough, it has been more than 50 years that the Europeans left the shores of Africa at least administratively; upon this, many Africans, especially the generation that was born towards the end of the 80s who did not experience colonialism directly or indirectly, continue to blame the Europeans for the problems of Africa in the 21st century.
