The decision of the State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to immortalise former governor of the state, Olusegun Agagu by renaming the State owned University of Science and Technology (OSUSTECH), Okitipupa after him has been commended by the University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sunday Ogunduyile.

Ogunduyile in an interview with The Hope described the gesture as a right step in the right direction considering the efforts made by the late Agagu during his tenure as the governor of the state.



In his words: “My reaction is positive. Renaming the school after late Dr Agagu is the right thing to be done, and we have examples all over the places, University of Ife for instance was named after Chief Obafemi Awolowo, the first Premier of the Western Region and Ondo State University, Akungba was named after Chief Adekunle Ajasin, the first civilian Governor of the state and so on”.

The Vice Chancellor stressed that the whole University community are fully in support and will do everything possible to fall in line with the governor’s decision.



Prof. Ogunduyile was however quick to add that process will require extensive rebranding, he therefore appealed to the state government for assistance.

“Don’t forget that everything that bears OSUSTECH has to be changed, even to the academic gowns. The paucity of fund can only be a challenge, and we are praying that Mr. Governor will back us up when it comes to rebranding of the University.



The Vice Chancellor equally used the medium to congratulate the governor for the successful completion of two years in office wishing him the very best.

It will be recalled that Akeredolu during a thank you visit to Okitipupa Local Government while addressing traditional rulers and party members announced government’s decision to rename the state owned University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa after the late Governor, Dr. Olusegun Agagu who incidentally established the University.
