The foreign Scholars, whose nationalities cut across different parts of the world - Europe, America, Asia and the Far East, have joined Covenant as International Visiting Scholars.

The appointment of International Visiting Scholars at Covenant is renewable each academic session. Each stay is an opportunity for scholars to engage in teaching, scholarly scientific life of the University community, and possible research collaborations with members of the faculty in the receiving Department.

Indeed, Covenant had long established the culture of receiving international scholars, but the surge in number validates the recent elevation in status, particularly the University’s ranking as a world-class institution prompted by a drastic improvement in her research endeavours, cutting edge teaching and world outlook.

How true is this? So, these scholars will have to leave their comfort abroad for a Nigerian University. Are there no more professors in Nigeria?
The attribute of a world class university is that it must have a diverse pull of lecturers from different parts of the world. Go to Tshwanne university of Technology South Africa and see several Nigerians teaching there. Wole Soyinka holds a job at University Of Johannesburg.

Last year both Covenant and UI where both poorly ranked on Times Higher Education index for internationalization because they didn't have sufficient foreign staff and students, though they had a commendable number of joint research projects with foreign varsities...

So Covenant anticipated this issue and has set aside about 3 billion naira(10 million USD) as far back as 2014 to purposely recruit foreign staff.

As per your question, the lecturers will stay a minimum of 3 months in CU(one semester), after which they would return to other institutions every year.

How can we compare this to schools where the HODs and VCs are always son of the soil?

You mean our quota system should continue and extend into private sector? With an arrangement like this, a student making good grades in foreign lecturer anchored courses but poorer grades for those of local lecturers can easily be spotted. It will also help make local lecturers trying prove their worth sit up.

If I had all the money in the world, and if I'm still in Nigeria by the time my kids get to the University age, I don't need sending them overseas for the first degree.

CU is enough!

How many of these lecturers are engineers and applied scientists?

Covenant need to employ more foreign lecturers in STEM to bridge our technical gap as a country.
They are more expensive, but it is what we need.

All these philosophers, sociologists and economists are good, but does not solve our national problem. And we have a lot of them in Nigeria already with world class degrees.

Lol valid point sha. But I imagine it doesn't come cheap. CU would have to employ them on special salary, provide individual laboratories. But private universities inaccessibility to federal research grant would kill the idea.
No STEM lecturer would come to Nigeria without a path to adequate research funding.
