Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, says South West leaders must adopt new methods if their quest for restructuring of the country is to be realised.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the governor, who spoke in Ado Ekiti at a national retreat of the Afenifere Renewal Group (ARG) which he hosted, said the current tactics being used in agitating for restructuring was defective.

According to him, the Yoruba race needs to be more tactical if it is indeed desirous of actualising its desired restructuring.

He urged the proponents of restructuring in the region to liaise with other zones on how to actualise the plan.

“There are those who entertained fear on this issue of restructuring and whether this is legitimate or not, we must reach out to them because we are not an island onto ourselves.

“We don’t need to be shouting on the roof tops before we get it, but if we want to do it alone, the agitation will fall,’’ he said.

The National Chairman of the group, Wale Oshun, reiterated the need for restructuring and advised that it should be taken to the front burner to benefit the Yoruba race.

He also canvassed for true federalism, urging political leaders in the region to take a firm stand to protect the rights of the Yoruba race.

“Our leaders who know that restructuring is an issue that is germane must speak up the way the ACF used to speak on some national issues,’’ he said.

Genuine restructuring, Fiscal federalism, State and local government autonomy. Not Atiku's type of restructuring; and definitely not APCs definition of restructuring.

They want it badly than any other region, Hypocrisy is what's holding them back. Kanu might be a looser but had the guts to challenge the government of the day. Whereas, the Yorubas are still waiting for one of their own to front the restructuring thingy which is most likely impossible.

He is correct. Restructuring might likely force states to merge as most are not self sufficient. The North won't find it easy just as some parts of the South East. The position of Lagos stretches positively to some other South West states. Osun might not survive the move, just as Ebonyi.

A state like Enugu where nearly 70% are civil servants won't even smile when it is stamped.

Restructuring comes at a huge price. As a matter of fact, it is excellent on paper and somewhat ugly when practiced, mostly on dependent states that have little or no resources/ideas.

so what exactly are you suggesting? it's not like Nigeria is even surviving as it is, the death is gradual and torturous. everyone is only trying so hard to grab a chunk before it is totally useless.

there are a lot of areas autonomous communities can look to for revenue but intellectual lazy leaders jostle for political positions because it has been made so lucrative and a shortcut to riches via the feeding bottle system.

South West actually started the call for true federalism and restructuring through NADECO and the then Afenifere leaders..you can google it...We stop agitating when ipod got involved with their crude method..so we watch to see how far they can go

Scrap those wasters called "states" and go back to regional governments. There are to many civil service administrations plundering critical funds for infrastructure, in the name of "salaries" which directly only benefit the civil servants. Fiscal federalism with the current 36 states will not succeed; in fact, many states will become bankrupt...and that is the major reason why restructuring is being challenged!

Big difference between restructuring and secession. Yorubas clamor for SW region. iPob clamors for a ghost country.
