2019 Elections : Finally, German President Reacts To Buhari’s Victory Following the conclusion of 2019 general elections, German Chancellor, Angela Merkel has called President Muhammadu Buhari to congratulate him on his victory. Igbere TV recalls that Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) defeated former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). A statement Monday night by presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, said Chancellor Merkel pledged to continue cooperation with Nigeria on peace and security, while promoting investment and trade for sustainable economic development. “President Buhari thanked the German Chancellor for her spirited efforts in combating irregular migration on the continent, lauding the policy of assisting immigrants in need”, the statement added.
