In power for two decades, 82-year-old Abdelaziz Bouteflika, the target of a popular protest for more than a month and challenged by the army, resigned Tuesday night, announced the Algerian official media. According to the Constitution, it is the president of the Council of the Nation (upper house), Abdelkader Bensalah, 77 years, pure product of the regime, which will ensure the interim for a maximum period of 90 days during which a presidential must be organized.
