I Thank Abia Govt, Sen. T.A Orji For Sending Me To Prison - Don Norman by Metrixnews: 9:39am On Apr 04, 2019
A former media aide to T.A Orji, the Senator representing Abia Central, Don Obinna Norman has thanked the Abia state government and his former boss for sending him to Afara prison.

He said the experience exposed him to hidden things in the society, adding that they have made his job a lot easier.

Speaking with newsmen shortly after he was released from Afara prison in Abia State, he said he was locked up in prison to stop him from speaking during the electioneering period in the state.

He described Ikpeazu led government in the state as a monumental disaster that shouldn't be called a government.

"They don't want me to talk. That's why they put me in prison. When you have an insidious government, a government that looks condescendingly on people what do you expect? I was not surprised when I heard Okezie Ikpeazu was declared winner because election in Abia State has always been rigged but this time around the result was written.

"If election was conducted in Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu will come third because he is a failure. His government is a monumental disaster that shouldn't be called government" he said.

The journalist said he has nothing to fear for again, saying he loves Afara prison and not afraid of going back.

He said during his stay in the prison, he preached the message of freedom to the inmates where he had many converts.

He said he is loved and respected more than the governor and his accuser and his former employer, Sen. T.A Orji.

He said he feels sorry for the Abia Central Senator, describing him as an old school politician who allowed himself to be deceived by what he called a charge-and-bail lawyer, Barr. ACB Agbazuere.

He vowed to follow the case to the later in order to teach his accusers how to respect a citizen.

Norman said by the virtue of his job as a journalist, he is constitutionally empowered to hold the government accountable to the public.

He faulted his imprisonment, saying it was done in error.

Norman expressed surprise that the Magistrate who ordered his remand had earlier said his court lacks jurisdiction over the matter, wondering why his remand was ordered.

He said the underhand deals some policemen attempted to carry out in his case has revealed to him that 85% of those in Afara prison are innocent.

He threatened to write what he called a strong-worded petition to the NJC and NBA on how the Abia state Chief judge and other judges have been compromised, including an unserious state police command.

The MD REALM Newspaper berated the Abia state Nigeria Union of Journalists for not doing enough to secure his release while in prison.
