Security Operatives Barricade Assembly Complex*

There is tension in the Imo State House of Assembly. This led to the take over of the Assembly complex by security personnel on Thursday.

This newspaper had reported yesterday that members are piling pressure on the Speaker to ensure their entitlements and allowances are paid before handover date, May 29.

But a new dimension played out yesterday.

Some members now want the Speaker , Acho Ihim and the Deputy Speaker, Ugonna Ozuruigbo impeached.

The duo stand in their way who want to amend some Rules that will help in determining the next Speaker of the House.

The Speaker which had suspended the five lawmakers had invited them to interface with other lawmakers on April 16 during Executive session.

The invitation came after member representing Nkwerre, Chika Madumere, moved a motion for the recall of the five suspended members.

It would be recalled that on November 5, 2018, an Owerri High Court had quashed the suspension of four of the five lawmakers.

The Court had said their suspension was illegal. The suspended members include Uche Ogwuike(Ikeduru APC), Israel Nnatoronye (Mbaitoli), Ikenna Nzeruo (Oru East)

The Court directed the House to pay the applicants their salaries, allowances and emoluments for the period they were unlawfully suspended.

The House it was gathered is yet to obey the Court Order.
