Do We Really Have Free Education In Nigeria? by Harlex(m): 10:18pm On Apr 13, 2019
We talk so much about free education and most state governors in Nigeria continue to short change their state by offering the most expensive form of basic Education. What is free about an education which dose not has positive impact to the society?
Let’s talk about free. The fact that parents do not have to pay school fees dose not translate to free education. What free about a process that lack quality. How many of this leaders can subscribe to this sham they parade as free #Education?
In 2019 we still have classrooms with no furniture, ceilings, doors, windows, etc. we are still talking of atmosphere and not man power. A state currently employed local charmers to help hunt bandits, when was the last time this state employed teachers?
How much incentives or motivation have this state given to hard working teachers in the state? Nigeria currently spend more than ten times what its spends on education in securing the country. Going back to the main topic.
Free is not applicable to #Education as a serious nation expect so much in return after giving her citizen quality education. When a nation delivers quality education to her citizens, its spend less on security because crime will seize to be the order of the day.
A nation that priortise education will have healthy citizens and there will be innovation because the mind of the citizens will be healthy. The country save more when its ensures that everyone get access to quality education.
Nigeria can thrive and if she must, it must start by offering her citizens the best. The best of Education, Health care services, food, shelter and government must stop looking at education in a perspective that after all they are not paying for it.
Education can never be free in a serious society as there are so much expectation from a person that have been given quality Education. Government should begin to reward excellence in education, reintroduction of scholarships as this will increase the desire to succeed.
Teachers should be motivated, teaching job should not be seen as inferior to white collar jobs. Government should have expectations and there must be both long and short term programmes just to ensure that they keep track of achievement and how to sustain progress made.
So it’s either we continue with the kind of free that has no focus or government embrace an Education that help save the future, where government get paid back by having a secured society, a society full of bright minds, and a society ready to do more for their country. Nigeria.
