For decades, ‘how to lower cholesterol levels’ has being a popular topic amongst health professionals, health enthusiasts and almost every individual.

But before we talk about natural remedies and some medical therapies for a high cholesterol level, it would do us lots of good to know more about ‘cholesterol’.

What is Cholesterol?
Cholesterol is a soft, waxy, white substance that is found in animal food products such as red meat, poultry, eggs and diary products.

While there are lots of noise about cholesterol levels, we actually need cholesterol to help create cell membranes for the approximately 60 to 100 trillion cells in our bodies.

It is also needed for the formation of steroid hormones, such as testosterone, progesterone and estrogen.

Cholesterol is soluble only in fat and cannot be dissolved in the bloodstream, it therefore carriers to transport it in the blood. These carriers are lipoproteins.

It is through these lipoproteins that we can determine a person’s cholesterol levels. Let’s look at two of these lipoproteins that determine an individual cholesterol level.

HDL cholesterol
HDL stands for ‘high density lipoprotein’. It transports cholesterol from the arteries back to the liver where it is eliminated from the body.

This prevents the formation of plaque which causes coronary disease and heart attacks.

For this reason, this cholesterol is referred to as the ‘good’ cholesterol.

The other lipoprotein which transports cholesterol is…….

LDL cholesterol
This is known as the ‘bad’ cholesterol.

LDL stands for ‘low-density lipoprotein’. This lipoprotein carries cholesterol in the blood!

Hence, if too much LDL is circulating, it can slowly build up as plaque in the arteries. These can lead to serious health problems if not handled.

In a nutshell, a high LDL cholesterol represents a high cholesterol level in the individual.

And of course, there is a remedy to this. Continue here https://gwulifestyle.com/how-to-lower-cholesterol-levels-natural-remedies/
