Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted the Chairman of Onitsha Electronics International Market, Chief Okechukwu Okolie, popularly called Gozac. Daily Sun gathered that Chief Okolie was abducted at about 9.00am yesterday by armed men dressed in chieftaincy regalia at Upper Iweka end of Oguta Road in Onitsha, Anambra State.

The gunmen who came in Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), accosted Chief Okolie, shot at his Toyota Camry, missed the target but forced him out of his car.

The kidnappers, numbering about five, according to eye-witnesses, dumped their victim inside their vehicle and escaped through the 3-3 part of Onitsha, where some military men were manning the road.

When contacted, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Emeka Chukwuemeka (ASP), told newsmen as at the time of filing this report yesterday in a telephone chat that the matter had not been reported to their Command officially.

However, Chief Okolie's car has been taken to the Onitsha Police Area Command Headquarters, Onitsha, even as many people are querying the rationale behind how the kidnappers could escape unnoticed through the road block mounted by some eagle-eyed soldiers at 3-3 road, along the Onitsha/Nsugbe/Otuocha highway.

Family members and his colleagues at the electronics market are yet to establsih contact with the kidnappers as at the time of filing this report, yesterday.

However, sources gathered that the kidnap saga might not be unconnected with the alleged implementation of Anambra State Government White Paper on the market, which is expected to disposses the former leaders of a lot of stalls as well as compel them to cough out several millions of naira allegedly misappropriated by them during their tenure.

Some of the past leaders were said to have allocated to themselves, some members in their good book and their family members as many as 40 stalls, apart from the huge amount of money they allegedly misappropriated.
