WHAT LIVERPOOL WINNING THE LEAGUE WOULD MEAN…FOR AFRICA

On a weekend that started with the announcement of the groups at this year’s African Nations Cup (AFCON), 2 Africans made their mark in what is, perhaps, their biggest game of their season. At Anfield, Sadio Mane and Mo Salah banished the demons of Gerrard’s slip by hammering Chelsea to put Liverpool as favourites to win the English Premier League title. In the face of ‘bomber’ chants from rival supporters, they provided the perfect response. This wasn’t a normal win…this win means more…for Africa.

First of all, previous title wins have hardly involved more than one African; Yaya Toure was a key part of Man City’s title wins in 2012 and 2014 while Didier Drogba was Chelsea’s biggest asset in his prime when they won the league title as well…even Riyad Mahrez deserves a mention for his PFA-winning role in Leicester City’s fairytale league triumph. But rarely has it been seen that 2 Africans would spearhead a title win, let alone one that is long overdue. Liverpool have not won the league title since 1990…that’s too long. Man City may have Mahrez in their side but he has already won the trophy, and so this will feel more special if Salah and Mane got the title instead.

The title serves as great build-up to the AFCON. The competition will be held, for the first time, in the summer. Salah and Mane, barring injury or whatever-reason-for-being-absent (God please), will be at the tournament; with Egypt and Senegal set to take centre-stage. After a dismal World Cup for both sides, the AFCON represents a golden chance to set things right. What better to do it than with a Premier League winner in your side? Even Nabi Keita could be in the tournament…Guinea also qualified. Awesome.

It's dangerous being a policeman in many states in this country.
To many of this criminal elements, the only thing the fear is Policemen with guns, take those guns away, and you will have more dead policemen than dead civilians.
The situation is dicey to be honest.

On one hand, you have civilians being killed. On the other hand if the guns are no longer there, you'll have some criminal elements taking advantage of it. Sad.

By merely seeing a police officer carrying Ak47 assault rifle alone on a normal day is even abnormal. Police should be carrying just pistol while on duty and not rifle as if we're at war.
Only the special squad can be allowed to carry heavy fire arm to combat kidnapping or armed robbery cases.

They should not even be using guns at all, they should revert to their old method of using baton "opa" which was their original arm that gave them the popular name "olopa" in yoruba.

That is why you have intelligence...If the police cannot in the 21st century work using technology to tackle crime, then they should take whatever comes their way. But giving senile policemen assault kalachnikov riffles when they are on simple duties is a no no

Bail is free you see it at every police station you enter but they would still demand bail and money for file.
Back to the mata
Nigerian police on regular duties should use pistols and SARS should seat down in the office but should only come out only when a distress call is placed
Just the way SWAT only comes out on terrorism , armed rubbery etc .
thank you... The ig needs to tow this line.

They will abuse it, Just the way the abuse the use of Guns, Nigerian Police are untrained and ill equipped, They have no professional direction, the crops of police that are churn out of the present system cannot act sane with Nigerian people, they are vindictive and abusive
Enroll fresh grandaunts from all University, train them , make Nigerian Police more lucrative with better service, Sack their Uneducated Boss
A fresh new start for the Police is better than giving tasers to illiterates

IamHeWrites:
The Nigerian Police says its men will no longer be allowed to carry firearms during operations.

Instead, officers of the Police Force will now make use of electro-muscular disruption technology known as teaser in place of firearms.

The Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Muhammad Adamu disclosed this while addressing men and women of the Nigerian Police Force at the Police College parade ground, Ikeja, Lagos, on Monday.

Adamu said the use of the teaser otherwise known as rubber bullet will be used by the routine patrols, arrest duties and other low-risk operations “as strategic approach towards reducing incidents of fatalities associated with misappropriation of lethal weapons by the Police as first line of response to any threat.”

He was reacting to the spate of extra judicial killings by some policemen in recent weeks.

IGBERE TV recalls that a 20-year-old Ms. Joy Ifeanyi was shot dead by men of the Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS) on Saturday in Lagos. This comes less than two weeks after 36-year-old Kolade Johnson was murdered in cold blood by SARS operatives at a football viewing centre in Lagos.

According to the IGP, between January to April, 2019 “Lagos State has recorded four incidents of misuse of firearms which have resulted in extrajudicial killings of young citizens of this country and injury to others.”

“Its more worrisome that two of these incidents occurred within the last two weeks. Aside negating our professional calling, extrajudicial acts of any description or level by any police personnel is an unacceptable anomaly that creates distrust and disdain between the citizens and the police and widens the trust gap between them.

“In perfecting these initiatives, we shall be engaging with Human Rights Bodies, International Agencies Development partners and Civil Society Organisations.

“This is with a view to evolving a united front towards addressing these challenges on a sustainable basis and within the context of best international practices.”

Adamu further stated the Force will no longer tolerate the senseless killings carried out by some of its officers around the country.

“I must emphasise that enough is enough. The nation and indeed the Police under the current leadership can no longer tolerate abuses associated with the Police either in Lagos or any other part of the country.

“I have already ordered that a signal be circulated to all Police Commands and Formations warning of dire consequences against any personnel that by their incorrigible acts deviates from accepted Police culture and values.”

While warning the officers, Adamu added: “The choice now is for each officer to either resolve to perform his or her duties within extant rules, laws and policies or be prepared to be shown the way out of the system.

“Our visit to Lagos is also designed to condone with the families of the victims of the recent incidents of misuse of firearms or other forms of abuse of power by identified police personnel in the State and to share in their grief.

“It is also to reassure citizens that as an institution, the Nigeria Police will not condone any form of abuse of power, acts resulting in misuse of firearms, overzealous and sundry unprofessional conducts by members of the police regardless of his rank and position.”

When did TASER and RUBBER BULLET become the same?

Good way to go.....

It is high time we introduced this technology that has been in existence for many many years in sane society to our country.

Just hoping that our policemen won't use it wrongly, they need an extensive education on it...

For those of us that do not know what TASERs look like or how it works, here you have it........
can this works when the criminal is mile away?
