State Of Emergency Looms In Ogun ! by wales(m): 5:58am On Sep 16, 2010
The intractable face-off within the Ogun State House of Assembly on the one hand and between the House and Governor Gbenga Daniel may soon land the state in an emergency rule regime. Daily Sun can authoritatively reveal that there is a lobby to this effect in Abuja, and it is coming from key stakeholders in the state who are impressing it on President Goodluck Jonathan to intervene.

Incidentally, the lobby is not coming from the usual suspects that the Ogun State Government would ordinarily point the finger at.

An elder statesman from the state who spoke to Daily Sun on condition of anonymity yesterday lamented that “the state was fast slipping into anarchy” and that until “something drastic is done to arrest the situation, things may get worse.”
He said even former President Olusegun Obasanjo was not satisfied with the state of things there, but the elder statesman would not confirm if the ex-president was part of the group lobbying Jonathan to impose a state of emergency in Ogun.

The source, however, confirmed that the deterorating situation in Abeokuta might be one of the reasons Obasanjo returned early for today’s emergency meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), pointing out that the ex-president headed directly to Abuja to probably have a meeting with Jonathan on the Ogun matter.

Daily Sun learnt that Jonathan was not too favourably disposed to imposing a state of emergency in Ogun, but was disturbed enough by the development there that he summoned all the dramatis personae to Abuja.
The source said that Jonathan, rather than impose emergency rule, ordered the squabbling groups to go back home and resolve the matter. He was also believed to have suggested to the governor that he should take steps to ensure that the impeached Speaker, Egbetokun, was returned to his seat, a suggestion the governor was said not be too disposed towards.

Jonathan’s decision to follow the path of amicable reconciliation, the source told Daily Sun, was informed partly by the fact that Daniel was to lead Jonathan’s campaign for the 2011 presidency in the South-west.
However, with the increased pressure coming from respected stakeholders in the state, the President might have given in, especially if the crises were not resolved any time soon.
The lobby of the stakeholders, Daily Sun learnt, was informed by their belief that if the crisis in the state PDP was not resolved decisively, the party might become not sellable to the electorate in 2011.

It seems like historyy is playing over again. This state of emergency in Ogun is starting to remind me of Operation Wetie, the head of the army is Igbo, the niger deltans are are committing militancy like they did back in the 60s, the north is fighting over control of the country as they were also doing back in those days, and on top of that the middle belt is having high clashes as back in the 60s. This is kind of strange.

These issues can be resolved without resulting to state of emergency.

The Governor believes he is above the house, we are in a democracy and the House can impeach any Governor if Governance in the state has broken down, clearly that is the case in Ogun State. Jonathan’s protection of an illegality can even bring him down if care is not taking.

ive been praying for a state of emergency in the state abeg

the gains would be
> The Guvnor would be removed from the position - No 100 billion bond
> The Guvnor would be a persona no grata in the State
> The Guvnor will be liable to answer cases of corruption
> The State would not be thrown into lifelong indebtedness because of One asswipe parading himself as the Guvnor of the State
> The State of Emergency would mean Egbetokun won the war of attrition over a sitting Guvnor
