A former head of state, General Yakubu Gowon (rtd), has said that the fate of one of his successors, General Badamosi Babangida, to run for presidency in 2011 election will be decided by Nigerians.

He said this at the official presentation of a book, entitleds. Lagos State-My Life of Service With Integrity, an autobiography by the first military governor of the state, Brigadier-General Mobolaji Johnson (rtd) at the City Hall, Lagos, on Thursday.

It is a 250 page-book, which captured every minute, hour and times of Johnson’s stewardship as governor of the state between 1967 and 1975.

According to Gowon, the constitution of the country and the democratic dispensation in the nation’s polity allows for every eligible candidate to contest the 2011 elections, adding that the fate of every aspirant, including that of Babangida lies in the hands of the electorates.

He said, “Those of us who had the opportunity to do it, we should look and set our minds to the future generation but if anyone has that ambition, they should let the public be the deciders for that particular person, they have the right to do so. Those who want to come back can come if they want to and let us practice democracy.”
