MTN Nigeria has announced that it has completed its conversion from a private company to a public company.

The telecoms company in a statement on Wednesday said the conversion to a Plc was a legal requirement and key milestone in the preparatory process for MTN’s listing by introduction on the Nigerian Stock Exchange.

MTN said the proposed listing on the NSE would create a new telecoms asset class for investors and provide a wider group of Nigerians with a chance to participate in the MTN investment opportunity.

This is a forced listing though .This however is long over due, other companies like standard chartered, shell, should be listed as well. These are part of the negotiations Nigerian government ought to have had with these companies right from the beginning. So, if you are looking for who to hold responsible for the poor state of the Nigerian capital market, it is the Nigerian government. We have a lot of companies in Nigeria, but only few are listed on the market. It's sad. We cant even compete with the likes of Johannesburg stock exchange....new York stock exchange in all respect be it market cap, number of listed companies, number of security variety, amount of value traded etc.
