Ondo State governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN), on Thursday directed that all the students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, (AAUA) who were arrested by the police, following the students’ protest at the campus be released immediately.

Some protesting students were arrested by men of the Ondo state police command today for alleged breach of peace in Akungba and the campus.

Authorities of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) have shut down the institution following protest by students over the decision of the management to impose “no payment of tuition, no test/no exam policy”.

It was gathered that step by the institution to enforce the policy on Tuesday as 100level and 200level students started their test, was resisted by the students who staged peaceful protest on the campus today.

In a circular released by the University’s authorities in March 2019, students who are yet to pay their recently hike tuition will pay additional #10,000 for late registration and whoever that do not pay to register would not be allowed to write first semester 2018/2019 test and examination, tagged “No Registration, No Examination”.

However in a Statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Segun Ajiboye, the Governor gave the directive to release the protesting students after receiving a briefing of the incident from the state police commissioner, Undie Adie.

Akeredolu said the state is already looking into the matter, urging the students to go home and the maintain the peace, stressing the need for peace in the campus and the state at large.

Reports say if not the governor’s intervention the apprehended students would have been charged to court today.
