The former NHRC boss stated this in a series of tweets on his verified and official twitter account, stating that the practice of entitled rape of alleged sex workers by men of the Nigerian Police force is not new.

Activist and Former chairman of National Human Rights Commission, Chidi Odinakalu says personnel of the Nigerian Police Force treat raid, rape of alleged sex workers as fringe benefits of being a Police officers.

The former NHRC boss stated this in a series of tweets on his verified and official twitter account, stating that the practice of entitled rape of alleged sex workers by men of the Nigerian Police force is not new.

He said, In the 1980s, “@policeNG came up with a “bright” solution to violent crime: detainees in its custody suddenly died with bullets in their backs & were said to be robbers who died in gunfight with police while escaping. There’s habit in turning suspects into offensive criminals”.

“In this case of #AbujaPoliceRaidOnWomen it is unfortunate that ppl continue to say police arrested “prostitutes”. No1 goes around wearing #IAmAProstitute tattoo on the forehead. There’s no crime of being a prostitute in the law books.”

” Ppl are acting like what has bn reported here is new. It is not. @PoliceNG in Abuja have bn abusing women, hurling them off the streets & branding them as an excuse for mass abuse for a long time. I got involved in looking into this when I was with @NhrcTweets”.
