Arthritis is an inflammation of the joints. There are more than 100 different types of Arthritis, wit different causes and treatment methods. Two of the most common types especially in people of African descent are Osteoarthritis (OA) and Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA).

The cartilage is a firm but flexible connective tissue in your joints. It protects the joint by absorbing the pressure and shock created when you move and put stress on them. The reduction in the amount of this cartilage tissue cause a form of Arthritis called Osteoarthritis (OA). An infection or injury to the joint can help the natural breakdown of the cartilage tissue.
Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disorder. This occurs when your body’s immune system attacks the tissue of the body. These attacks affect the Synovium which is a soft tissue in your joints that produces a fluid that nourishes the cartilage and lubricates the joints. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a disease of the Synovium that can invade and destroy a joint. It can eventually lead to the destruction of both the bone and cartilage inside the joint.
Deficiency in Vitamins and minerals like Vitamin D, K and Calcium can affect both physical and mental health. Many people have vitamin D deficiency without realizing. Vitamin D is a nutrient that helps to regulate the amount and absorption of Calcium in the body. Vitamin D and Calcium is crucial for bone health. A deficiency in Vitamin D causes bones to soften and become weak. This is called Osteomalacia in adults and rickets in children. Vitamin D deficiency symptoms may include muscle pain in the joints, including Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) pain, which often occurs in the knees, legs and hips.

• Joint pains
• Stiffness
• Swelling
• Redness of skin around the joint

In the case of Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) you may feel tiredness or experience loss of appetite due to inflammation the immune system causes. You may also become anemic (your red blood cell count decreases) or have a slight fever. If left untreated, severe Rheumatoid Arthritis can cause joint deformity.

Seeing your primary care physician is a good step. They will perform a physical examination to check for fluid around the joints, warm or red joints and limited range of motion in the joints. Your doctor will refer you to a specialist if needed.
If you have severe symptoms, you may choose to schedule an appointment with a Rheumatologist first. This may lead to a faster diagnosis and treatment.
Extracting and analyzing inflammation levels in your blood and joints fluids can help your doctor determine what kind of Arthritis you have. Blood tests that checks for anti-CCP are a common diagnostic test.
Doctors may commonly use X-rays, MRI and CT scans to produce an image of your bones and cartilage. This is so they can rule out other causes of your symptoms such as bone spurs.

The main goal of treatment is to reduce the amount of pain you’re experiencing and prevent additional damage to the joints another goal of the use of herbal remedy is to help solve the problem when the use of pharmaceutical/orthodox drugs is not yielding a desirable result.
Your weight can make a big impact on the amount of an you experience from Arthritis. Extra weight put more pressure on your joints –especially your knees hips and feet. Reducing the stress on your joints by losing weight will improve your mobility, decrease pain and prevent damage to your joints.

Regular movement helps to maintain flexibility in your joints. Weight bearing exercises such as running and walking can be damaging. Instead try low – impact exercises such as water aerobic or swimming to flex your joints without adding further stress.

Everybody needs omega-3 fatty acids in their diet for optimum health. Omega -3 and Omega – 6 fatty acids are very essential to the body. These fats also help your Arthritis. Fish oil supplements which are high in omega -3 have been shown to reduce joint pains and stiffness.
Another fatty acid that can help is gamma-linolenic acids or GLA. Its found in seeds of certsin plants such as evening primrose, borage, hemp and black currants.

Turmeric, the yellow spice common in Indian dishes, contains a chemical called Curcumin that may help to reduce Arthritic pain.

Any disease that ends with 'Tis', is as a result of inflamation. To attack it, you must flush out the mucus that has caused the inflamation. First, make the body inconducive for mucus, by stopping starch and carbohydrates for a month. Then Alkalize the body. Use sliced lime or lemon boiled in water and allowed to cool. Drink 1 litre daily for 1 month. All such diseases will disappear.
