People often, out of desperation, neglect important details while looking for new apartments. This is why it is common to hear that residents complain about the condition of these apartments after their move. It is important to do a background check and ask the right questions before giving your hard-earned money to some housing agent or landlord. Among the many details you might want to consider before you move to your next apartment, here are seven key details to save you a lot of future pain and regret. 1. The type of property Whether you want to rent a flat, an office or an entire building, you need to choose the size and amount of space you want. If you want to rent an apartment for your family, then you must consider the space available to comfortably fit the size of your family. 2. Proximity to work, business or school Consider the proximity of your home to your workplace, business, or school. This is so that you arrive at the best option that will not adversely affect your daily activities. Living close to where you work or school will help to reduce daily transport costs. You may also consider places that are not too far from the major roads, where you can always trek home when you come back late at night and cannot find taxis or do not have enough money to board taxis. The truth is, if you rent an apartment in despair, you run the risk of being dissatisfied in the long run. 3. Security As important as this is, a lot of people neglect it when looking to rent an apartment. You must try to determine the level of security of the area and the property itself, and to see if the doors and windows are vulnerable. Also check the immediate surrounding if the fences and walls are secure. 4. Price What is your budget for this? Is it within your budget or above it? Can you afford to keep up the rent without any problems? Answering these questions enables you to avoid unnecessary financial constraints. This means that when you have a budget you want to live within, you can avoid the financial difficulties that can put you in debt. 5. Access to basic amenities We live in some places to improve our quality of life. So, check if there is a constant power supply, good roads and clean water in that location. Check if there is any local supermarket nearby to get things in case of emergency. Also, find out if there is any hospital or medical center around just in case. 6. Tenancy contract and agreement Most people are guilty of signing or accepting some things without reading or understanding the document, or asking the right questions. You need to read carefully and thoroughly before signing anything. Imagine a tenancy agreement that includes the time you must enter the compound, what you should do and what you should not do, that you can't take in visitors, etc. Very ridiculous! Hence, you have to read these documents very well. Most importantly, an agreement should be stated for a notice period of 3 or 6 months before the end of the lease. Many have suffered cruelty on this point at the hands of landlords. 7. Meet the landlord Although it is common practice to deal with agents in the search for homes, it is advisable to meet the legitimate owner of the property so as not to become a victim of scammers. It is very important to have basic information about the owner. Once you are satisfied with all these checks, you can go on to pay your rent and enjoy your next home. SOURCE courtesy IJAM Property |
