Not many clubs are known for producing spectacular nights on the European stage, but even for Liverpool this was a historic achievement and belongs in a class of its own.

A new chapter was written down in the history books at Anfield as the Reds booked a one-way ticket to the Champions League Final in Madrid on June 1st in breathtaking fashion, as Barcelona were humiliated and succumbed to the power of Anfield.

Speaking of triumphing in the face of misfortune, written off after that devastating 3-0 defeat at the Camp Nou.

Just 6 days earlier, coupled with the loss of Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino & Naby Keita to injury, you’d be delusional to think Liverpool stood the slightest of chances to pull a Remomtada in Barcelona but somehow they produced a performance of breathtaking effort and intensity.

Heroes stationed all over the pitch, Divock Origi’s early goal set the tone, before super sub Gini Wijnaldum struck twice in the space of as many minutes after the break to set the comeback in motion, Alisson was outstanding and Oozed Class throughout the game as he pulled a succession of brilliant saves to deny Barcelona the away goal they so much craved.

Captain Jordan Henderson led by example with a display of heart and belief, Fabinho excelled alongside the skipper as the somehow managed to keep Messi quiet.

No wonder Trent Alexander-Arnold was last to leave the pitch after the hysterical celebration, the vision and execution of his quickly taken corner caught Barca napping and Origi snapped up the fourth, the Belgians Name boomed all over Anfield as he takes the fast track to legendary status, it looked like a work of fiction but it was indeed a glorious reality.

Just when Liverpool’s remarkable season looked destined to finish with them empty-handed, they find themselves just 90 minutes away from lifting the European Cup for the sixth time and exorcising the demons of Kiev.

Anfield has witnessed many things over the years but nothing quite like this.
