Our tendency to ethnicise and sectionalise issues is shocking. Okey Bakassi and others from the South East have had support from the FIRS, not the Chairman. The FIRS and Fowler are different entities. Why this is glossed over eludes me. The FIRS has supported comedy shows featuring comedians from all parts of the country, but those who can view things only through sectional prisms will never see that. Kenule or whatever this chap is called is desperate for attention. He's probably keen on having financial support routed through him, so he could corner things for himself. Appeal to ethnicity and sectionalism is a cheap trick. Very cheap one. It is inflected with a wish to be seen as a victim of some conspiracy and robs users of the trick of what they desire. Buhari didn't score huge votes in the South East because of artistes? This is a new one. He's never done well in the South East even when he had running mates from the region. Or it is assumed that artistes have more capital than an Okadigbo or Ume Ezeoke?

Na wa o. FIRS doesn't entertain but is only mandated to collect revenue on behalf of the government. Why would any region feel they are being cheated for not invited to sing? Na who be ss or se?

Very often, we see this type of thing in politics. A politician loses relevance and tells himself that the best way to regain it is by claiming his people have been marginalized when, in fact, it is for himself that he wants goodies. When he had relevance, his people, whom he allegedly loves, never had respite from the various problems facing them. When those in charge of patronage reconsider him, he reverts to type.
