NLC Declares Ngige Unfit To Be A Minister by Dutableandy: 6:40am On May 11, 2019
The Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC) urged workers at the airports of the nation and those in the 163 countries that are members of the International Trade Union Confederation to ridicule Labor and Employment Minister Chris Ngige.

The congress said it called for the action because Mr Ngige invited thugs against workers during a “lawful protest” to his house.
The Congress, leaving its Central Working Committee meeting on Thursday night, demanded the minister's "unreserved apology for his action."
Speaking after the meeting with journalists, NLC national president Ayuba Wabba said the minister's actions were a clear indication that he was not fit to hold public office.

“He's not fit for being a minister. He has no reason to be called a labor minister. He's his own lord and he's against us instead of protecting us. Therefore, under the circumstances we have nothing to do with him."

"NLC has sent messages to all workers in the 163 countries that are members of the ITUC to embarrass the minister and his family wherever they are seen, particularly at airports where workers operate," he said.

Mr Wabba said the minister had no right to change the president's appointment on the pretext that he never recommended that Frank Kokori lead the board of the NSITF.

"The real reason he opposes Chief Kokori is because it is impossible to compromise the veteran labor leader. Since the minister discussed the issue of corruption in the NSITF, the government should set up an enquiry commission to investigate the agency in order to unravel who the actual corrupt people are, "he said.

"Who are the real corrupt people in NSITF, according to Mr Wabba? Is it the uninaugurated board or is it the minister?”
Speaking of the criticism that followed the congress ' decision to picket the residence of the minister, Mr. Wabba said the minister was a public officer with a public office. Even his house is a public place until he leaves office.

"He left his office in any case and operated from his house. The house has been his second office for some time now and he has avoided any place where he comes in contact with us. "Mr. Wabba said that the money in NSITF belongs to workers because it is a contribution of employers to take care of their workers ' social needs.

"That's the only reason Labor and NECA have on the board two members each. Even the labor ministry has one member. We are therefore demanding the inauguration of the Board, headed by Kokori, and investigation and prosecution of all the thugs who attacked us in the full glare of security agents, "he said.

The president of the NLC said the national protest will be limited for now to Abuja and asked all affiliates and state councils to start mobilizing their members ahead of the protest.
