A Nigerian lady is currently battling a battered eye after her fiancee who she is set to wed in August this year, beat her blue-black. Activist, Gwamnishu Harrison, who shared the story online this morning, wrote

FEW MONTHS TO WEDDING.
Engaged to be married by August 2019. She was not involved in an accident. Her fiancee did this to her. This is not the first time. she's been covering him up in the name of "where would I start from? I still love him".

Ignorance, mental issues, lack of exposure, and outright wickedness (moral deficiency) all contribute to this evil.

She deserves better but she can’t help herself. She doesn’t believe in herself; maybe she wasn’t taught to, maybe society taught her that she belongs to a man’s world. She has put in so much time to make things work and society makes her feel she’s a coward if she lets it all go. It’s called reverse psychology!

This is a problem all over the world, not just Nigeria. Even in countries where the law is aggressively enforced, many women are still found to be in a situation where they’re victims of reverse psychology, believing the man will change someday, believing the man was not in control of his senses while performing the heinous act, thinking its their duty to cure the man or protect the man from disgrace from his evil actions, fearing for their lives because they’re threatened and afraid... while the evil breeds!

One of the problems in Nigeria is that the society doesn’t do enough to bring justice to the consciousness of the women. Violence against spouse is treated as a domestic issue unless your relatives or friends or sympathizers have some influence to make a case for you. By the way, people have to pay the police (called mobilization) to investigate their cases so if you’re not well to do, forget it, so... here we are!

Our society also abhors divorce and being single, being out of marriage is seen as weakness or inability to stay married, so women eventually lose their self respect while coping with the problem...

Anyway, wish her quick recovery and hope she never goes back to that man again!
