Amid jubilations Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state has finally presented Staff of Office to the newly appointed First Class Emirs, in Kano, which started with the Emir Aminu Ado Bayero, one of the eldest sons of the late Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero, who is the newly appointed Emir of Bichi Emirate Council.

He presented the Staff of Office to them in this sequence, after Bichi Emir, he proceeded to Karaye Emirate Council, when he presented to the new Emir, Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar II, followed by Emir of Rano Alhaji Tafida Abubakar Ila and finally presented to the Emir of Gaya, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdulkadir.

In each of the Emirate Councils, the Governor with his large entourage were greeted by thousands of people who came from all the Districts that make up the Councils, as they who showered encomiums to the Governor and rejoicing with the newly installed Emirs.

After the presentations, he congratulated them for being appointed as leaders of their people. Urging them to always abide by what the Staff of Office symbolically represents.

Explaining that, “This Staff of Office represents dedication and commitment to serve your subjects in the areas of security, health care delivery system, education, and environment among others. We, as a government, are always ready to work with you hand in hand for the growth and development of our state in particular and the nation in general.”

He Added that they should always be ready to see that their people were their major concern, insisting that, “You should place greater priority on education, health and the security of your domains. As the government would always respond positively to your people-oriented yearnings and aspirations.”

Ganduje urged the new Emirs to strive hard in the area of security, emphasizing that, “As leaders who are closer to your subjects, you should join hand with government and other security agencies to make sure that, security is not only improved but maintained.

Efforts towards strengthening community policing, as practice globally, should form part of your commitment. Ours is too, together, ensure that global best practices are observed.”

Highlighting that, “New security strategy should be looked at. That is why I am calling on our Emirs to always consider workable and viable synergy with all the stakeholders in your domains, with the singular reason for making our societies safer.

Security is on the shoulders of all of us. Government alone cannot tackle the issue of security. And traditional institution plays a vital role in this area.”

All the Emirs assured Ganduje of their support in his bid to develop the state, assuring him that, all the areas he highlighted would be given special consideration, for the overall development of the state.

They made it categorically clear that regular meetings between them and other stakeholders in their domains would strategically be designed in order to discharge their responsibilities diligently.

Emirs promised to give special priority and attention to the education of all, particularly girl child education.

I used to think it was the sultan who gives staff of office to Emirs in the north o. This SLS just shot himself in the foot. He clearly overrated the influence and power of the Emirate stool. Obviously, this Emirs are no more than political tools to foster the interest of the political office holders. Considering how this issue happened so fast and smooth, it is safe to say, the northerners don't really rate their Emirs as we are made to believe.

In 1963 the Premier of Northern Nigeria, Sir Ahmadu Bello, dethroned Sarki Muhammadu Sanusi (I). He was banished to Azare. It was personal, it was political.

In 1982 Governor Muhammad Abubakar Rimi returned the dethroned Emir to Wudil. He also created four new Emirates, the same ones that the Kano State House of Assembly has just created. Rimi did it to spite Sarki Ado Bayero. It was personal, it was political.

In 1983 Governor Sabo Bakin Zuwo reversed the creation of the four new Emirates. He did it to spite Abubakar Rimi. It was personal, it was political.

In 2014 Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso appointed Sanusi Lamido Sanusi (Muhammadu Sanusi (ll)) to the throne of his grandfather. He did it to spite President Goodluck Jonathan who had suspended SLS as CBN Governor. It was personal, it was political. Bear in mind that Kwankwaso and SLS were at daggers drawn. SLS had openly criticised Kwankwaso's decision to spend N700m to build a liason office in Abuja; Kwankwaso had in turn asked UBA to sack SLS who was a GM with UBA. Never mind. In 2014 appointing SLS to the throne of his forefathers suited Kwankwaso.

Sarki Muhammadu Sanusi (Il) cannot on any account be called politically naive. He ought to have chosen his battles wisely. Amir Muhammadu Sanusi (Il) is a reformist ruler, his subjects need him desperately. Almajiranci/bara (street begging), girl-child education, abuse of polygamy, abuse of divorce, drug abuse are issues the Emir has placed on the front burner. His subjects need him desperately. By not balancing his actions and utterances with some circumspection he has allowed his sphere of influence to be whittled down by politicians who have no scruples. If he is dethroned it will be a massive let down. A brave and courageous General can only lead his troops to victory if he stays alive. Charging headlong into enemy lines is foolhardy, it will merely expose his troops his troops to needless danger and defeat.

That is where we are today. Sarki Muhammadu Sanusi (Il) has played into the hands of Ganduje and his House of unscrupulous Assembly members. The well being of the people means nothing to them. It's personal, it's political.

All said though, woe betide the man/men by whose hands the House of Dabo has been dismembered. Woe betide Ganduje if the Courts eventually grant Abba Gida Gida the keys to Government House Kano. This sacrilege on the House of Dabo may yet be reversed.
Gbam grin

I was wandering that as smart as SLS seem to look, he offered to be a royal father after he was booted out of office by GEJ.Methinks, he was avoiding probe from the FG,and that throne carries some immunity.
SLS was overrated, he lacks good sense of judgement. Those who live in glass house should not throw stones.

Over the years there has been a growing disconnect between the rulers and the ruled.. that is why the people really dont care, they can see that their rulers are only after enriching themselves, living flamboyantly in the midst of poverty.
SLS knowing that he occupied a powerless position should have remained apolitical. I can say that the Governor of Kano, surely must have Mr. President tacit support.
