A'IBOM: AKPANUSOH EXPRESSES DISSATISFACTION OVER LOW IGR BY MDAs

Internally generated revenues(IGRs) has overtime remained one of the primary source of income for state government to use in building and maintaining the state infrastructures as well as actualize its projects.

However, despite the unflinching efforts by the government of Akwa Ibom State to ensure that MDAs upgrades their IGR, this has been met by little or no success as most of the MDAs are into the habit of unremitting prevarications on how much they generate, despite the huge amount of money they receive.

The Ministry of Transportation and Petroleum Resources has been labeled the number one victim of this.

Regardless of the money they receive from Tricycle owners and riders on daily basis from ticketing, commercial drivers annual registration and with the number of commercial vehicles in the state, MDAs presented to the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation an estimate of #26M as their generated income for the whole of last year. This, the AKHA Committee on Finance and Appropriation has expressed dissatisfaction, stating that this is a system of rubbing Peter to pay Paul.

Consequently, the chairman of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Rt. Hon. Dr Usoro Akpanusoh has admonished MDAs to increase their IGRs to a reasonable level, as this would help provide more income to the state government to help bring into reality life touching projects. This is also imperative because the monthly allocation to the state from FAC is insufficient to belp actualize the huge projects to be embarked upon by the state Govt.

In addition, the chairman of the committee in his speech also commended the state university, AKSU for its tremendous effort to raise her IGR to about #200M for the first quarter and as well urged them to keep up the good work.
