Supreme Court To Decide On Zamfara APC Primary Elections On May 24
Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) and Damian Dodo (SAN), counsel to the appellants, prayed the court to return the ruling by the High Court that recognized the primary elections conducted as valid.

The Supreme Court has set aside a date to rule on the validity of the 2019 primary elections conducted by the All Progressives Congress in Zamfara State.

The acting Chief Judge of Nigeria would be leading the five-man panel that would be delivering the final verdict on the case.

The case, which was brought to the apex court by a faction of the APC led Governor Abdulazeez Yari, is seeking to upturn the ruling of the Appeal Court that set aside the judgment delivered by the Zamfara High Court allowing the All Progressives Congress (APC) to field candidates in the 2019 election.

Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) and Damian Dodo (SAN), counsel to the appellants, prayed the court to return the ruling by the High Court that recognized the primary elections conducted as valid.

However, Mike Ozekhome (SAN), who represented the Senator Kabiru Marafa faction of the party, urged the court to dismiss the appeal and uphold the judgment of the Appeal Court in Sokoto.

Ozekhome who withdrew a cross-appeal by Sanusi Liman-Dan Alhaji against Senator Marafa even as the panel dismissed Volume 9 of his reply brief to the APC appeals after it was deemed not to have proof of payment fees, also prayed the court to award a substantial cost to the appellants.

Backstory

The Court of Appeal sitting in Sokoto State on the 25th of March, led by Justice Tom Yakubu had struck out the judgement of a Zamfara High Court on the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election that produced the party's candidates for the governorship. national and state assembly elections.
